Resolutions To Be Tabled At AGM On 19 June

IMPORTANT NOTE!
We notice that readers are referring to the Resolutions listed by us here as resolution No. 4 or 10 and so on. Please remember that the numbering has been assigned by us here for easy reading and may be totally different on AGM day in terms of sequence. For example, the resolution No.10 on review of membership may be the 2nd (or 4th or 7th etc) resolution to be tabled by the BOD at the AGM. Therefore, please pay close attention to the resolution being tabled during the AGM and vote wisely. Do not expect the Resolutions to be numbered as listed here in CT.

********************************************************

Finally the BOD has decided to table all the Resolutions submitted by members. Below are the summary of 7 resolutions proposed by some concerned members, 3 resolutions by other members and 1 resolution by the Board of Deacons which will be tabled at the coming AGM on 19 June 2009.

1. PROPOSED RESOLUTION ON VOTING PROCESS OF THE AGM

Whereas, it is paramount that members be able to make decisions at this AGM without fear or favour;

Whereas, any allegation of improper voting processes may undermine the results of this AGM and should thus be avoided;

Therefore, RESOLVED,
that all resolutions of this AGM be voted on by secret ballot.

Rationale for this resolution:
Members at the AGM must be given the full right to exercise their votes without fear or favour. Making members stand up to vote exposes members to unfair and unjustifiable scrutiny. Moreover the leadership must have the opportunity to know the true feeling and decision of the congregation. This can only be achieved through voting by secret ballot.

2. PROPOSED RESOLUTION ON CHAIRMANSHIP OF THE AGM

Whereas, Rule IX(3) of the Church Constitution states as follows:
The Senior Pastor shall be the Chairman at all General Meetings. If at any such meeting the Senior Pastor is not able to be present, the Secretary of the Board of Deacons shall act as the Chairman of the Meeting.
In the case where the Senior Pastor is unwilling or where he deems it not conducive or inappropriate to perform his duty as Chairman, he may appoint a representative to act in his place. The representative must hold credentials with the Assemblies of God. If the Senior Pastor does not appoint a representative then the Executive Council of the Assemblies of God of Malaysia shall, upon the invitation of the Secretary of the Board of Deacons, appoint one of its Executive members to preside at such General Meeting.

Whereas, any allegations of conflict of interests during the AGM may arise from Senior Pastor chairing the AGM, thus undermining the proceedings and which must therefore be avoided;

Therefore, RESOLVED,
that one of the Associate Pastors of the Church be appointed for the purposes of chairing this AGM.

Rationale for this resolution:
Senior Pastor is no longer able to chair the AGM with impartiality and independence. He has vested interest in each and every decision to be made at the AGM. As such the AGM must be chaired by another person who holds credential with the AOG.

3. INTERVENTION OF AOG GENERAL COUNCIL

Whereas the Church is in a state of disunity and the continuing division for more than a year has rendered the Church unable to function as the Lord intends.

IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED THAT:
1) pursuant to Rule XIII (2) of the Church Constitution, the General Council of the Assemblies of God of Malaysia be requested to appoint a caretaker committee composed of such Voting members of the Church and representatives from the General council as it deems fit. The caretaker committee shall be charged with the responsibility of managing the Church and its activities until the Church is deemed capable of managing its own affairs, and

2) pursuant to Rule XIII (1) of the Church Constitution, the Church Secretary shall minute and convey this decision to the General Council of the Assemblies of God of Malaysia forthwith.

Rationale for the resolution:
The conflict and division has gone on long enough. The pain and the hurt keep intensifying. Calvary Church needs healing and reconciliation and we need it now. The problems are unlikely to be resolved with the present leadership and the existing division.

Over the one year the division has gone deeper and wider. Instead of healing and reconciliation, each general meeting of members aggravated the situation even further, e.g. the EGM on 4th April 2009. If we allow the problems to persist unresolved, the situation will grow increasingly worse. We need outside intervention; someone with the necessary spiritual authority and seen to be adequately independent by both sides of the divide and with the necessary skills and expertise to help us resolve our problems. We need the General Council to step in immediately.

Our constitution provides for it. The intervention of the General Council would stop the escalating tension and division in the Church and would provide the opportunity for healing and reconciliation under an independent party. The General Council has the spiritual authority.

4. RATIFICATION OF SENIOR PASTOR’S REAPPPOINTMENT

Whereas Rule XI(1)(a) of the Constitution states, “The Senior Pastor shall be appointed by the Board of Deacons. The appointment shall be ratified by a two-thirds majority vote of the Voting members present at a General Meeting properly convened for that purpose. The appointment shall only be subject to a re-election at the request of the Board of Deacons or not less than two-thirds of the Voting members.”

Whereas it is the intention and spirit of Rule XI(1)(a) that the Senior Pastor enjoys wide support and acceptability by the members of the Church.

Whereas Section 2 of the Calvary Church Staff Handbook states that all the staff of the Church are classified into 3 categories, namely, Pastoral and Ministerial Staff, Office Staff and General/Technical Staff. The position of Senior Pastor falls within the category of “Pastoral and Ministerial Staff”, as it is also stated that “Senior Pastor heads the pastoral team (pastoral and ministerial team) comprising staff categories such as Senior Associate Pastors, Associate Pastors, Assistant Pastors and Ministerial Staff.”

Whereas Section 11 (1) of the Calvary Church Staff Handbook states that the Retirement Age of all Church Staff, with the exception of Pastors, will be 55 years of age. Section 11 (2) further states that the Retirement Age for Pastors will be 60 years of age.

Whereas Rev Prince Guneratnam had retired upon reaching the age of 60 years and had been reappointed by the Board of Deacons as Senior Pastor for an extended period. Such reappointment pursuant to Rule XI(1)(a) of the Constitution would be subject to ratification by not less than two-thirds of the Voting members present at a General Meeting.

Resolution
“It is hereby resolved that the reappointment of Rev Prince Guneratnam, upon his retirement, as Senior Pastor of Calvary Church, Kuala Lumpur, by the Board of Deacons be ratified by two-thirds of the voting members present at this AGM pursuant to Rule XI(1)(a) of the Constitution.”

Rationale for this resolution:
It is of utmost importance that the senior pastor enjoys the full support of the congregation. Therefore his reappointment must be put to the vote. An endorsement by at least two-thirds of the voting membership would indicate that he still enjoys the support he needs to continue as senior pastor. Failure to garner two-thirds of the votes would indicate the loss of confidence in the senior pastor.

CT Comments
This is the most controversial resolution. If less than two-thirds of the members vote in favour of this resolution, then SP has to leave. Do not be surprised if the pastors and deacons start warning members not to touch God’s anointed and quote scriptures, taken out of context, to frighten members. Remember that ALL Born Again, Bible-believing Christians are also anointed by God. The deacons had ‘shed first blood’ by terminating Dr Lum, a member/deacon anointed by God and this disqualifies them from preaching this.

There are many perspectives to this concept of “Touch Not God’s anointed”. Click on links in blue to read.

a) The NECF article “Touch Not the Lord’s Anointed!” at http://www.necf.org.my/newsmaster.cfm?&menuid=2&action=view&retrieveid=1044,

b) “Touch not my anointed” at http://www.letusreason.org/Pent47.htm,

c) “How to fire your Pastor” at http://www.founders.org/journal/fj51/editorial.html,

d) “The Untouchables: Are God's Anointed Beyond Criticism?” at http://www.equip.org/articles/the-untouchables-are-god-s-anointed-beyond-criticism-,

e) “Touch not the Lord’s Anointed?” at http://www.christian-parents.net/Church/YC102_Touch_Not_Annointed.htm.

If SP is confident in his spirit that he is still God’s anointed to lead Calvary, then he should be able to sleep easy in the next 2 weeks. If he and the pastors and deacons are not able to rest in the Lord, then they ought to examine themselves because nothing the members do can thwart the will of God.

5. CONSTITUTION REVIEW COMMITTEE

Whereas a Constitution Review Committee had been established by the Board of Deacons to review the existing constitution, its composition is deemed to be unrepresentative and not adequately independent; plus its scope is limited.

Whereas the existing Church Constitution, incorporating Rules, By-Laws and Tenets of Faith amended in 1985 is no longer adequate for the present-day running of the Church and had to be updated and expanded, that there is a need for a new independent Constitution Review Committee to be established.

Therefore: RESOLVED
that the present Constitution Review Committee to be dismissed and a new Constitution Review Committee to be established to review the existing Church Constitution and to make recommendations to the members at General Meeting for amendments, additions and deletions to the Constitution for the improvements of Church organization structure, church governance, accountability and transparency, operational efficiencies and to safeguard the assets of the Church.

The Committee shall report its proposals and recommendations to the members at a General Meeting within 91 days from this AGM.

The Committee shall comprise 7 members nominated and elected at this AGM from among the members of the Church. The 7 members shall not include deacons, pastors and staff of the Church. A member of the Committee shall be elected from among themselves by a simple majority vote to be the Chairman of the Committee and he shall have a casting vote in the event of equality of votes. The Committee shall determine its own terms of reference, time-table and work reporting procedures and processes.

Notwithstanding the provisions of the existing Constitution granting the Senior Pastor the right to be an ex-officio member of all committees in the Church, the Senior Pastor shall not be a member of this committee.

Rationale for this resolution:
After almost 9 months there is no evidence of the effectiveness of the Board appointed committee. The committee must have the skills and competency and the independence to do a fair and balanced job. They must not be seen to be protecting the status quo. To go forward the constitution must be reviewed and amended such that the work and ministries of the Church can proceed efficiently and effectively whilst giving substance to the fact that we are a congregational church. The constitution must have adequate checks and balances to provide for good church governance. The separation of powers and improvements in the system of internal control would help protect the leadership from unwise decisions and practices. As such a new committee must be elected by the AGM.

6. TRUTH COMMITTEE

Whereas many questions had been raised about the finance and accounts of the Church and its components arising from inadequate accountability and transparency, there is a need for a Truth Committee to be established.

RESOLVED:
“Resolved that a Truth Committee be established by this Annual General Meeting to review the financial statements, accounts and accounting records including but not limited to minutes, vouchers, band statements, documents of ownership, correspondence and reports of the Church, its Missions Department, the extended ministries, auxiliary ministries, outreaches and all other components related to, principally financed by, or controlled or managed by Calvary Church or its personnel including Calvary International Ministry and Care Relief and Development Agency (CARED).

In carrying out its work, the Committee shall have the full power of the Board of Deacons as conferred by the Church Constitution including the power to appoint outside professionals to assist in its work.

The Committee shall report its findings and recommendations to the members at a General Meeting within 91 days from this AGM.

The Committee shall comprise 7 members nominated and elected at this AGM from among the members of the Church. The 7 members shall not include deacons, pastors and staff of the Church. A member of the Committee shall be elected from among themselves by a simple majority vote to be the Chairman of the Committee and he/she shall have a casting vote in the event of equality of votes. The Committee shall determine its own terms of reference, time-table and work and reporting procedures and processes.

Notwithstanding the provisions of the Church Constitution granting the Senior Pastor the right to be an ex-officio member of all committees in the Church, the Senior Pastor shall not be a member of this committee.”

Rationale for this resolution:
All these months the Board had managed the information flow to the members; starting with the so-called reports from the forensic accountant and the criminal lawyer. Even the report from the church auditors on the special audit was controlled by the Board. We need an independent committee to look into all the alleged irregularities and come out with a complete and independent report to the members.

7. REMOVAL OF DR LUM FROM CHURCH MEMBERSHIP TO BE DECLARED NULL AND VOID

Whereas Rule VIII(1) of the Church Constitution states, “The Right to discipline Church members shall vest in the Board of Deacons (BOD). The names of those who walk disorderly and depart from the stated Tenets of Faith and are unrepentant of unscriptural conduct such as sexual immorality and fraud, etc. shall be removed from the Church Membership Roll, by a two-thirds majority vote of the Board of Deacons with the counsel of the Church Elders.”

Whereas, the BOD has BREACHED and FAILED to comply to the said Rule VIII, Item 1.:-
I) The rule consist of three elements to be satisfied conjunctively in order for a member to be validly removed vis-à-vis
i) walk disorderly; and
ii) depart from the stated Tenets of Faith and
iii) unrepentant of unscriptural conduct

II) The rule also requires the decision of the BOD to be made together WITH the counsel of the Church Elders.

Whereas, the BOD has BREACHED and FAILED to comply with the Rules of Natural Justice in removing Dr Lum from membership.

Whereas, members are concerned that the BOD appears to sanction the use of their non-compliance of the Rules; and unreasonable interpretation of the Rules and questionable methods in the removal of its members.

IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED THAT:
i) the decision made by the Board of Deacons on 19th March 2009 in removing Dr.Lum Siew Heng’s name from the Church Membership Roll to be declared NULL and VOID; and
ii) the Church Constitution to be amended to include detailed provisions on disciplinary committee, functions and procedures.

Rationale for this resolution:
The process leading to the removal of Dr Lum from church membership was against the rules of natural justice primarily because the Panel of Inquiry was not independent or impartial. He was not allowed proper representation and the findings of the Panel were not proper as the Board of Deacons had earlier already indicated that they had decided to remove him from membership, even way before the Panel was formed. Therefore the decision of the Board must be declared to be null and void by the members at the AGM.

8. RESOLUTION IN RESPECT OF FOUR INTERNET BLOGS
(submitted by other members, no rationale provided)

Whereas, there have been articles and comments written on the various blogs which are disrespectful of our leaders, pastors, members and worshippers and/or causes divisions amongst our members.

Whereas, we feel that the continued publication of our church matters on the public domain is totally unacceptable.

We, the members therefore RESOLVE:
(a) That the following blogs, CALVARY TODAY, BERITA CALVARY,CALVARY KINI and CALVARY UNITY be closed within 3 days from 19th June 2009 i.e. by 22 June 2009.

b) That failure to close the said blogs by 22 June 2009 be deemed as contravening the wishes of the Church members and leadership of our elected leaders and that the Board of Deacons do investigate and take firm disciplinary actions against person(s) connected in anyway whatsoever to the blog that remains open.

c) That any member found disseminating slanderous and untrue information about the church through public domain be subject to disciplinary action from the Board of Deacons.

9. ANOTHER RESOLUTION PERTAINING TO THE FOUR BLOGS
(submitted by other members, no rational provided)

Whereas, the existence of these blogs are unacceptable.

Whereas, it is also acknowledge that there is a need for members to have a platform to discuss, debate and deliberate various issues within a private environment that will not impede the propagation of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Whereas, it is essential that deacons open an appropriate channel for such discussions by setting up an official private blog for Calvary Church members or enabling comments within http://www.calvary.org.my/ or something similar.

We, the members therefore RESOLVE:
I) That the following blogs, CALVARY TODAY, BERITA CALVARY, CALVARY KINI and CALVARY UNITY be closed within 5 days of this General Meeting, held on 19th June 2009

II) That the process of the closure be as follows:
To cease posting new articles immediately after this General Meeting
To disable comments in the blogs immediately after this General Meeting
To delete the blog in its entirety by 24 June 2009

III) That except as resolved above, no new blogs that discuss or invite discussion on matters that pertains to Calvary Church be set up in the public domain.

IV) That the Board of Deacons immediately creates a platform for real-time discussion of church matter within a member-only environment.

CT Comments
The 4 blogs do not belong to Calvary Church and therefore, technically, the members are NOT in a position to vote on the above 2 similar resolutions. Conducting a vote on this matter is similar to asking the members to vote to shut down the New Straits Times or the Star.

It is strange that the proposers included Berita Calvary in this resolution. Berita Calvary does not discuss our church issues, it only publishes inspirational articles and testimonies meant to edify the body of Christ. Why would they want to close a blog that builds faith in God and propagates the gospel?

The proposal that the Board of Deacons establish a blog or discussion forum for members to voice their comments is good provided that we have a Board which is independent, mature, open to criticisms and willing to listen to the members, otherwise it will be a failure. These 2 resolutions are also barking at the wrong tree. The blogs exist because of the unresolved saga in Calvary Church. Once the church issues are resolved, the blogs will die a natural death.

10. RESOLUTION ON REVIEW OF MEMBERSHIP ROLLS
(submitted by other members, no rationale provided)

Whereas, it is known that there are many Voting Members who have openly declared that they will not contribute or are currently not contributing to Calvary Church by:-

a. Not attending Sunday Services, Friday Night Prayer meetings and Life Groups; and /or
b. Not giving Tithes, Faith Promises or Offerings; and/or
c. Actively involved in ministry

However, these persons still retain full privileges as Voting Members

We hereby RESOLVE;
That the Board of Deacons do re-examine the membership roll and review the status of those Voting Members who are not contributing to the church.

CT Comments
This resolution, if approved, will result in easily more than 80% of the church members getting sacked. Most of the members attend 1 or 2 out of the 3 meetings mentioned and this will disqualify them to be members based on the above criteria which requires members to attend all 3 meetings.

On financial giving, many members pay tithes and faith promise pledges without stating their names on the envelopes and nobody puts in their offerings with their names written on the ringgit notes. It is therefore, impossible for the deacons to determine who gives and who does not. This criteria will disqualify the poor members, the housewives who have no income, students, maids and poor foreign workers. Is this what our church wants – kick out the poor and minister only to the rich?

Money should never be the yardstick for church membership for any true Christian church.. We cannot imagine any Calvarite supporting a ‘worldly materialistic’ resolution like this. It is shocking that someone would even propose a resolution like this.

On ministry involvement, there is no clear definition of what is meant by “involvement”. In Calvary, members are handpicked for the main ministries. No member can walk up to the pastors and volunteer to serve communion, for example. This criteria is too ambiguous and difficult for any Board of Deacons to establish.

11. Proposed amendment to Church Constitution RULE XII: FINANCIAL PROVISIONS, Item 3a, 3b and 3c. (submitted by Board of Deacons)

It is hereby resolved that RULE XII: FINANCIAL PROVISIONS, Item 3a, 3b and 3c be amended by deleting Items 3a, 3b and 3c and substituting the same with the following:-

a. External Auditors shall be nominated by the Board of Deacons and shall be elected at a General Meeting by a simple majority vote.

b. The Board of Deacons is authorized to fix their remuneration.

c. The External Auditors shall be approved audit firms pursuant to the Companies Act 1965. The assignment partner of the firm shall not be a member of Calvary Church.

d. The External Auditors shall not hold office for more than five consecutive years unless otherwise approved at the Annual General Meeting.e. The External Auditors shall be required to audit the annual accounts of
(i) The Church
(ii) Missions Department
(iii) Individual Extended Ministries
(iv) Any other ministries as determined by the Board of Deacons and issue their report to be received at the Annual General Meeting.

f. The External Auditors may also be required by the Board of deacons to audit the accounts of the Church for any period within their tenure of office at any date, and to make a report to the Board of Deacons.

CT Comments
This resolution seeks to amend the above section in the Constitution to allow the appointment of external auditors to audit our Church accounts.
This resolution is a revised version of the resolution which was tabled at the recent EGM that was rejected by members. This new revised version is more or less, in line with the changes proposed by the TTG group. We are of the opinion that it should be supported by members.

10. Resolution on Review of
Membership Rolls.

I am confused. Is there supposed to
be a Front Page for this as my attachments were not fixed accordingly to pages/Resolutions.

Most resolutons have subject matter
on their front pages

On Resolution No 4 on SP Re-Appointment, Resolutions 8 & 9
will die a natural death depending on the outcome of this Vote and
Yes, balloting will be done in
"SECRET" no peeping .

Resolution 10 said...

On Resolution 10,
a. Not attending Sunday Services, Friday Night Prayer meetings and Life Groups; and /or
b. Not giving Tithes, Faith Promises or Offerings; and/or
c. Actively involved in ministry

..... this is really sickening. You can verify on (a) and (c) by merely checking with the department heads. But, on item (b)... unless the person takes the time to verify the member's contribution. How will you answer to God? "We in Calvary church admits members who give financially and that is why we cannot have the migrant workers and the down-and-out Christians as members of Calvary church".

To simple housewife of Karen, now, you must show your bank account to qualify to be a member.

To all other CC-member wannabes, please get ready your bank account, your title deeds, etc....

How about where we live? Bangsar, Bukit Damansara, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail vs.....

To the person/people who requested for this resolution, you left this out of your resolution :
The right to advertise via the church notice board or blog the quantum contributed by everybody.

It only shows one thing... TOTT is really working. This would not have happened if BOD and pastoral board have listened to the members.

Our church talks of nothing but money, money and more money... If it's to save souls, then it's alright. But money's not used wisely in Calvary, that's we have so many issues.

The resolution 10 to kick out the poor is despicable.

Anonymous said...

Concerning resolution 10:
Ridiculous! People are not giving because there is a strong suspicion of CBT, not that they do not want to give. The problem is the poor management of funds by the leadership. These leaders should be the first to be removed from the membership list. Then the giving will flowing freely in again.

Furthermore, It is an enforcement that cannot be implemented. Giving monetary offerings has always a voluntary thing especially the amount that a person gives. It has always been and should always be something between the person and God.

If giving is forced then a members can give RM 1 to each category of offering to fulfil the legal obligation and this can be done repeatedly at every call for an offering. Or a big chunk of RM 1 can be given. You want to keep track of that person's giving? And you will have to in order to provide evidence that the total he gave was not enough. And then you have to make a public statement what the church means by not enough. Real messy, this.

Don’t forget there is no biblical basis for giving everything to one particular church unless CC comes out with a public statement that it is a must, which will rile up quite a number of rich givers who have NEVER given all to CC in their lives... but they still give CC a substantial amount. Rile them up and CC will not even get this substantial amount. The end result – CC will really rugee.

All giving in the many years of CC’s existence has always been done by the members cheerfully, in good faith and in trust. If this resolution is passed giving offering in CC will done under a cloud absolute suspicion and in total mistrust. Will this be a good example of a Christian church?

So we are back to where money matters again. Now you have to buy your membership CC!! It will be another first for CC!

Let go and let God! said...

Many thanks to CT for putting up this blog. And aptly raised the concerns on various resolutions. I remain respectful of Senior Pastor Prince Guneratnam, in particular for allowing resolution 4 to be presented. Let us trust God for whatever outcome. Let us pray for His will. Do not set preconceived expectation. Let us have faith in Him. Let go and let God!

For resolution 10. Do not be judgmental. Every member should be allowed to put forward resolutions before the AGM. Certainly, we wish to vote for resolutions that will move us forward rather than dwelling on one that alienates. Take note of the spirits who are actually behind the resolution not the resolution itself.

Let us forgive one another. May God have mercy on us.

Let go and let God!

Calvary Club said...

Hi Calvary Today and concerned members

Good job. One of the resolution talked about review of voting membership roll..Looks like calvary church should changed the name to "CALVARY CLUB OF THE RICH AND FAMOUS". Every voting member joining fees should be RM100000. Associate fees should be RM50000. Annual subscription should be RM1000. To retain voting membership's right subscription should be 20000.

For that, then SP doesnt need to say that it was "an extremely success" for the leap of faith for last 2 sundays. You know what, only around RM SIX MILLION pledged, but last year we have 9 million pledged but collected only around 50%.

Member said...

Talking about membership roll, I know of some "Rich and Famous" migrated overseas but still a voting member. So, he/she missed all the services excecpt all his/her money. Some who never even attended any of the above mentioned services but still a 'high profile' voting members..haha, what a joke?

Some voting members were sacked for not voting for SP's agenda. So, they are not allowed to serve in any ministry in the church, Shall we sack SP or the voting members?

Not attending Friday prayer meeting? OO.. in the prayer meeting, SP used to pray for "demonic spirit" among the worshippers who attended the prayer meet instead of bringing petition and supplication to the Lord. So, in calvary church, looks like there are lots of "demonic" spirit in the service, in this case, how dare some of us go for the prayer meet and other meets? And Dikran said it is not a "prayer meeting" but a "prayer gossip", So, calvarites, shall we go for prayer meet or "prayer gossip?" You decide.

Blogging brings out truth too said...

There is nothing wrong with blogging. Only wrong with ways of leaders. Our former PM, Dr M, said internet (including blogging) brings out truth.

In CC, without blogging, CIM wouldn't hv returned back the 1.04M. So, bloggings help the church more.

No Money No Membership said...

I remember PG always said that Calvary Church is not a social club. But now, if the resolution on the 'contribution' is adopted, we will be like a club where if a member who does not pay his monthly subscription, his membership will be terminated. So he is now going back on his words.

So beggars, poor people, housewives who have no income and children cannot be members of Calvary Church. If they accept Christ in their hearts, they are saved but they cannot be members of Calvary Church.

Is There Anyone Out There? said...

It is crystal clear now that the current leadership of Calvary Church values money more than anything else.

Did you hear any pastors speak on how to save souls for the last 12 months?

Its always on how God will bless you and then how you should GIVE.

If you have no money, you cannot come to worship in Calvary Church.

Can we have some comments from the AG Council and all AG Churches in Malaysia on what is happening in Calvary Church? You dont have to identify yourself but just say you are from another church.

Doesnt AG Malaysia know that every AG church in Malaysia is part of the AG body and if one is hurt, it can effect the rest of the body?
Or maybe they are too scared or they just dont care?

If resolution 10 is passed

Don't worry, give your offerings in 5 cents denomination and let them count and keep track of what you have donated for the whole year.

Your Vote Is Important said...

We hope Resolution No.4 is carried

somewhere in the middle so that

late comers can be included.

Very important also to ensure that

everyone is accounted for and

during this vote, nobody leaves or

go to toilet.

During the last EGM, SP garnered

50 % of the polls and if this AGM

shows the same, SP will remain

incumbent.

Here each vote is very important.

If let's say we have 600 voters,

SP needs only 201 votes "for"

which he will easily get, basing

on the last EGM head count.

To the uninitiated,

400 = 2/3 Majority

200 = 1/3 Minority

399 = Less than 2/3 Majority
( 600 - 201 )

SP gets the seat for a simple

majority.

You choose & vote wisely.

Let go and let God! said...

Let us not be worked up by resolution 10. It WASN'T mooted by the leadership as far as the proposer is concern. Leave this to the AGM. Lets prepare our heart instead that we are pleasing in His sight come this AGM.

Need help! said...

I am rather confuse about the Calvary Church Mission Ministry and Extended Ministries. Can anyone enlighten me concerning the grouping of extended ministries under Mission Ministry? We have 2008 Extended Ministries Financial Report and 2008 Mission Financial Report. How do they tie in as both are under Calvary Church Missions Ministry?

Also, the report from Music and Creative Arts Ministry was presented separately. Is this not part of the Missions Ministry? Whereas, the Statement of Income and Expenditure for Creative Arts Centre is found as part of Calvary Church Missions Ministry. Please help me reconcile. I need peace. Please help!

Resolution 10

What kind of PG & BOD do we have that will allow a resolution like resolution 10. Maybe there should be a resolution for the BOD to step down graciously.

Resolution 10

How true. Everytime you give people enough rope they will always hang themselves. BOD, it is time.

Speaking from experience said...

Hello dear fren Anonymous who suggested we put in 5 sen coins as offering.

NOT GOOD IDEA. Please don't do it. The people counting the offering money is not the Pastors. They are counted by ordinary church members like you and me. Can you imagine, the pastors collect the offering nowadays after the sermon, then send to the room somewhere to be counted by these poor souls (actually almost after the service sometimes) So what time you think these guys get to go home?

Think about it. They may be still counting your 5 sens while we are already having our afternoon nap. I know how it feels because I used to count offering money many many many moons ago.

U r right, Let go and let God.

"resolution 10. It WASN'T mooted by the leadership as far as the proposer is concern"

It was mooted by members of a same family. Reso 8 seconder, Reso 9 proposer & Reso 10 proposer & seconder r all from the same family tree. See it's easier to convince 1 family to submit for them than convince 6 different ppl to sign.

They target 1 group in mind only - not all the church members. So if u r not TTG ppl, u got no worries.

They are looking for "valid" reasons to kick ppl from the TTG. When these 3 reso passed, the 1st thing they will do is hold one more BIG kangaroo court and sack all the TTG.

That's why SP proudly say he can still get ppl to pledge RM6 million to him to build his CCC. It shows that he is still "extremely successful". Once he kick all the TTG off, he got no problem raising RM100 million more, well that's what they think, I think.

Membership Deleted said...

My membership was suddenly deleted and until today, I can't figure out what is the reason. Now I know why - because I am not rich and famous. Or maybe I am friendly with some of the TTG. But what's wrong with this?

Any way, my Lord Jesus came as a humble Servant, lowly in birth -born in a manger. He saved me, a poor and wretched sinner to share His glory one day. So what is membership in CC? It is not a passport to heaven. Well, what I am more concern is my personal relationship with God and to know Him.

Resolution 10
To speaking from experience.

Giving 5 cent coins is still a good idea. The purpose is to create an impossible situation.
You don’t have to actually count it. Just tell whoever is in-charge that you can’t do it.

As long as long as counting is not done they cannot determine how much has been given in for offerings and tithes. But they will be aware that you have actually paid the tithes and offerings.

As such they will NOT have the evidence to remove you from the membership roll.

So you can still have your lunch at the usual time....if that means so much to you. You don't believe in fasting and counting for the TTG cause??

Just for record "In Winning the Second Billion together" (17 Jun 08)website next to PG's photo (CoChair/SEA) was this statement:

" Pastors Calvary Church whose congregation is building a $100 million (US) convention center to IMPACT Malaysian culture..."

When this US$ 100 million was discovered and told to them, they claimed it was a mistake (?) Really? or PG had intended to make IMPACT for himself?

BY the way PG conveniently made no mention of the cancelled of 2nd Billion conference, which was supposedly to be held in CCC! And so, what has he done for all the HYPE he drummed up winning souls then?

Really the point is, the incidents are too many, to be brushed off so easily as "an error", "a mistake", "being misunderstood", "not what they meant", etc!
Truth is Bad intent and bad faith--seems like creating 'false impression' is also a trade mark

It's the- Art- of "*Lying without Blinking"

Resolution 10

Calling on all Calvary Members. Get your J forms/ Pay slips ready. PG & BOD will want them to calculate the tithes you have to give to remain a member.

After 45 years of running the church PG, PG2 & BOD can allow such a resolution. There is only one possible explanation. Alzeihmers syndrome. Which means aging is accelerating fast. Which means it is time. The finger is on the wall.

It is a crying shame except there will be no tears.

Your membership in Calvary Church has been taken away but rest assured that NO ONE CAN PLUCK YOU OUT OF GOD'S HAND.

Christ likens you and I as parts of His Body. When you hurt, we hurt too but more so the Lord Himself. Only I do not understand why SP doesn't feel the hurt but rather choose to continue to hurt poor sheep like us.

It seems evil of those responsible to take away your membership without giving a valid reason - Dr Lum has his membership taken away without trial.....

Be encouraged, The Lord sees your plight and will restore one day in His own time. Just be faithful

Let us all be spiritually discerning and take the right step that is pleasing to the Lord Jesus

It is giving too much to Calvary Church in the past that has tempted pastors and Deacons (for supporting it) to live the life-styles of high-flying and egoistic pastors such as high stipends(well in excess of the norm in Malaysia)business-class travel for mainly seminars/conferences(only RM1.04m out of RM1.90m released)health-clubbing(aka fitness club) rewards to selective pastors/deacons' children's travel etc etc. The Truth Commission when established will discover more bad practices.

Quote to me that the Bible says that tithes and offerings must only be handed over to Calvary Church while there are many other churches that are strictly following the biblical teachings of mission and salvation are in dire need of our cheerful givings.

Cast your votes prayerfully and with greater discernment as you do not wish for the continuation of bad habits. Instal transparency truth and Godly Governance to please God not some men.

Someone mentioned that God is calling SP to build a 5,000 seating church and not a 5000 seating CCC. Whereas DS told the NST press that CC has a 10,000 members. So SP should be building a 10,000 or more seating CCC instead. What is what? Very confused.

One thing I hv forgotten to mention is that one of the BOD sent me a letter of demand for the pledge that I hv made towards the building of CCC. So I gave. So that will be the first and the last contribution. No more $$$ from me

There's really no need to give the attention re the Resolution submitted by Arron Ram Sarma & Celine De Lima asking:

Let it be table for vote. Any Biblical rooted Christians will know too well and see through the ill intent of it.

There are more SERIOUS & CRITICAL issues every Concerned member of TTG CAUSE need to look up- close in the Annual Report & Extended Ministries Accounts, to see through the VEIL put -up by PG & BOD.

Hello Membership Deleted. You are not the only one who got that letter. All those who cannot pay got it. Don't be so harsh to say "demand" lah. They use "reminder". He just remind us to pay up on time that's all. When I got that letter, I just put it together with recycle paper to be sold. Can get money for it lah.

Did not pledge anymore so won't be getting any more letters to be recycled. Suppose I will be joining you soon - another membership deleted.

Can you allow that to happen?

Secret Ballot said...

The secret ballot resolution rational must be that:

Members at the AGM must be given the full right to exercise their votes without fear or favour.(100% agreed; even staff or pastors have no fear and use their votes with concience of GOD)

Making members stand up to vote exposes members to unfair and unjustifiable scrutiny. Moreover the leadership must have the opportunity to know the true feeling and decision of the congregation. This can only be achieved through voting by secret ballot.(PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THERE MUST BE AN AGREED TRANSPARENT SECRET BALLOT SYSTEM IF NOT FRAUD WILL DEFINITELY ARISES.THERE MUST BE AN INDEPENDENT GROUP OTHER THAN THE CHURCH WORKERS TO SUPERVISE THE WHOLE SECRET BALLOT AS TRANSPARENT AS POSSIBLE.)

resolutions to be thrown out said...

Hey, dont be too happy first. The resolutions were enclosed in our Annual Report but they may be thrown out and hence no voting on them. Or maybe not all will be thrown out. First, they put out a notice in the church stating that the resolutions will be addressed. Will be addressed does not necessarily mean they would be tabled for voting. They would probably mention that they have received them but they are throwing them out. Secondly the resolutions should have been printed in the annual report itself and not as a separate attachment. Moreover the attachment were rather poorly done. So I believe they have every intention of throwing the resolutions out. So be prepared.

Reminder to pay? said...

If I remember correctly, our pastor always said that the church will not send any letter to remind you to pay up your faith promise pledge or come knocking on your door, during Faith Promise Sundays. But now is different? Did anyone else remember hearing that statement?

THE SIGNATURE OF GOD!

Our God is an awesome God!. He is not a beggar! God's work done according to His will never lacks resources!

Dear "Membership Deleted"

Take heart as the other "another sheep" said - no power on earth can pluck you out of God's hand. Your name is written in heaven and nobody can delete your name from His register!

As far as my research shows there is no membership requirement mentioned in the Bible (please educate me if there is). I belong to a church that does not require membership nor faith promises. People give as their heart guides them for the Lord loves a cheerful giver - there is no compulsion!.

Study the great works undertaken by God's choice servants such as Hudson Taylor, George Muller, David Wilkerson, Rees Howells, Oswald Sanders etc. You will notice they did not go begging or demanding funds. There just moved in His being and the Lord provided.

Their work had God's signature. When people mention their works, they knew it was accomplished because God did a miracle and provided. The glory went to God - not men! When people remember their works - they know that behind that weak person was a great God - and God is glorified.

Now ask yourself - do you see the signature of God in the present building project? Perhaps it was originally a true vision of God. However, sadly the glory that rightfully belonged to God was robbed by humans and the glory of the Lord departed from the project.

Recently during my quite times with the Lord, I asked the Lord - "Will the AGM on the 19JUN09 -resolve Calvary's problems?"

The answer I received was "NO". No matter what the outcome and who 'wins' in the AGM - the Church is split. Only a direct intervention of the Lord that will shock both parties to humble themselves and forgive one another will bring the church together. Unless all can witness in their spirit that there is truth, justice and genuine love for every member - there can never be oneness of minds and hearts

A "grain of wheat must die" - because only out of death can there be life!

The Lord must permit something to happen that will cause a shockwave in the midst of the congregation that will unit all hearts ('FOR' and 'AGAINST') together. Otherwise, I can see no human means for the members to truly reconcile.

I am interceding for such a miracle. Let that be your prayer too. Declare and bring forth His will for Calvary Church. "A grain of wheat must die..."

To AG Malaysia.

Don't angry so fast. Some small wrong word used here. Many members also got that letter from that deacon but he didn't call it "demand" letter. Just to remind us to pay up only. He put very nice words in the letter like "God will provide.." etc etc stuff.

But I must say, he is not sensitive to people's feelings. People already question the way our church simply spend money and then what more the economic downturn and price increase of consumer items ... it is really not a right time to remind members to pay.

I think many member reacted the same manner as Membership Deleted by verbally expressing it to one another. But when written as "demand" it comes out very strong than spoken. This happens when we write our feelings.

When I heard some friends got this letter, we all had a good laugh and am guilty of making fun about it at that time. I did not get that letter but a "thank you" letter for fulfilling my pledge but was encouraged to give more. I did not and will not give any more becoz until now they did not give me to be voting member.

"resolutions to be thrown out said"
CAUTION!

Funny, how this was also on my mind this whole afternoon, --not coincidental, certainly, as our discernment is sharpened by the Holy Spirit day by day leading to the AGM.

Indeed, there is every likely hood that:
1. BOD will make-up reasons why certain "SELECTED" Resolutions will not be tabled.

2. The Celine/Arron's Reso, is PLANTED. bec BOD will throw it out, so that they will be seen as impartial, when they do the same for the few they have marked for the same fate.

3. The proposal/seconder of Reso "...the review the status of those voting Members who are not contributing to church" are hailed as their HERO, for this sly move. ( already they have succeeded to drum-up hue & cry over it, as they intended. Don't think they are stupid. That Reso has a hidden Agenda.

While we can't do much in the face of the Administration's Machinery at PG/BOD's disposal, we can take heart, God is our Advocate for the TTG Cause, and He will direct us.

CALVARY TODAY said...

We wish to clarify the error in the comment by the reader "Your Vote Is Important" (June 9, 2009 2:59 PM).

The resolution on the ratification of SP's reappointment requires two-thirds majority for it be carried/approved. This means that if less than two-thirds of the members present vote in favour, then SP will have to leave.

In other words, if 600 members are present and less than 400 members vote "YES", SP loses his position.

This can happen if members feel that SP should take full responsibility for all that has happened in our church or unhappy about the way SP has conducted himself. The many issues which has arisen in the last one year, the controversial transfer of RM1.9m funds from Missions to CIM, the sacking of Dr Lum etc may have an influence on which way the members vote.

On another note, we notice that readers refer to a particular resolution as resolution No. 4 or 10 and so on. Please remember that the numbering has been assigned for easy reading and may be totally different on AGM day in terms of sequence. For example, the resolution No.10 on review of membership may be the 2nd (or 4th or 7th etc) resolution to be tabled by the BOD at the AGM. Therefore, please pay close attention to the resolution being tabled during the AGM and vote wisely.

Gave but still got a reminder said...

I wish to share what has happened in my case with other Calvarites abt the letters of reminder(chaser is not a wrong word to use) to send in the payment for CCC Building project signed by the particular deacon in charge. The recent visiting Pastor will like calling this sharing a holy "gossip".

I have paid and got a church receipt in acknowledgement for the sum pledged. In fact I decided to give a sum over the pledge amount. I got the same letter of reminder to pay again which I am ignoring it treating this as adminstrativ mistake, carelessness, and an indifferent approach to this whole project. Maybe the stupid computer could not find a match for the amount paid and my pledge remains uncleared.

My initial reaction was to call the Church worker to express my disappointment over this lack of attention but later decided to forget about it as I think that their priority/energy is now zoomed on more important issues.

All the time and expenses on postage and paper could be saved by just making a gentle annoucement over the pulpit. It is not as though such an annoucement has never been done in the past about giving.

Lets Attend The AGM. said...

To all voting members and associate members,

Please come for the AGM on 19 June and stand up for Truth, Transparency and Good Governance.

I believe you would like to see Calvary Church revert to what it was originally intended to be, to reach to the lost souls and to care and love one another among ourselves, and to be a living testimony to all those that are around us.

Forget about your favourite TV show, your work, your house chores and your tiredness after office, and come for this most important AGM in the history of Calvary Church.

God cant use us if we are not present in the church. Neither say aiyah, nevermindlah, let others go and worry about it. I just sit and relax at home. If you want CC to continue to be what it is currently now, then I have nothing to say.

God bless all Calvarites.

4. RATIFICATION OF SENIOR PASTOR’S REAPPPOINTMENT

I recollect reading an earlier version of the constitution that required PG to annually present his progressive report after which the congregation will take a vote on his continuation of service. Over time this practice was dropped and eventually forgotten and conveniently so, I think. I knew, for a fact, that PG didn’t like the procedure at all.

However, I cannot help but think that the spirit and purpose behind the procedure was good – that the running of Calvary Church should take into consideration the thoughts and feelings, not only of PG but also of the members of the Calvary Church as a whole. Only then can we have true unity in Calvary Church.

The present constitution was been so biasedly restructured from the old version that it has to be yet proven whether it is ever possible to bring a senior pastor into any form of accountability.

Calvarites, check it out. I have a client in Bukit Jalil and I drove past the CCC site four times the last four weeks for my meetings, the last trip was only last Tues 9 June. And each time I drove past I didnt see one single worker on site. More interesting was that the tower crane closer to the main road was at the same position each time I drove past. You may say that they were having their breaks. But at every time I drove past? Not possible. Anyway you dont have to believe what I say. I would encourage you to take a drive the next few days and see it for yourself.

Please take note that we are not enemies - we are still brothers and sisters in Christ. We worship the same God and it must be breaking our Father's heart to see us fighting this way.

We just have a lot of issues that each side see them in different light. Until and unless we all see the issues thru the eyes of our Heavenly Father, we will be breaking His heart and nothing could be resolved.

Pray that the Holy Spirit will fill everyones' heart now and on the day of the AGM so that God's love and truth will truimph. Okay?

LET US TRUST GOD TO DO THE IMPOSSIBLE - HEALING AND RECONCILIATION WILL START AT THE AGM!!

Can CC say it is the light of the world or is it that CC needs light from the world??

TIME CONSTRAINTS

The TTG should be prepared for the eventuality that there may not be enough time to debate and implement all the 11 resolutions. If that happens will the AGM be extended to another day? I am doubtful that this will occur. The next alternative is that the resolutions may just be quickly glossed over or inadequately debated with the result that the congregation will be left confused as they vote.

NO, LOVE MUST BE BALANCE BY DISCIPLE at the AGM

Several people have made strong overtures that as Christians we must be gentle, loving and forgiving. Certainly there is a place for it. However, it is just one side of the coin. Dr. James Dobson speak of LOVE that must be balanced by discipline. Just giving love alone is actually being indulgence. God does not do that.
Why do we forget so easily that Jesus, who loved us so much so as to die for us, also disciplines us. How many times did Jesus say to the Pharisee, “Woe to you, hypocrites.” Woe to you means “may you suffer ruinous calamity!” Jesus also said, referring to Judas, “It would have been better that he had not been born.” He warned people who would dare to hurt little children, “It would be better for him if a milestone was hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea”.

In Mat 21:12 Jesus went into the temple courtyard and threw out everyone who was buying and selling there. He overturned the moneychangers' tables and the chairs of those who sold pigeons. He even whipped the culprits.

I loved all my children dearly but I never loved them indulgently. There times I needed to cane them. But because I was consistent I never had to do it after primary school.

Christians, you must learn that love must be balanced with firm discipline. Cast away wishy washy affections. It will result in a undisciplined church, like what we have now.

4. RATIFICATION OF SENIOR PASTOR’S REAPPPOINTMENT

PG1 has been trying to avoid this at all cost. He was due for retirement at 60 in 2004 according to the Church Handbook, the first version of which was published when I was with the BOD in the eighties. There was never any intention whatsoever for PG1 to have a ”no retirement” status. The committee thought they were already extremely generous in extending his retirement age to the age of 60 considering that in the government it was only 55 whether you are the PSD Chief, the Dean of a Faculty, the Vice-Chancellor of a University or a 4-star General in the army. But now it appears even that is not enough!

Having lots of time at hand to think and scheme and taking advantage of some ambiguity in a clause in the constitution PG1 must have convinced an extremely gullible BOD into believing he was entitled to a “no retirement “ status. The BOD immediately terminated the use of the Church Handbook in an effort to discard the document that clearly states that PG1 retires at 60. What else can you expect from them? Puppets on a string.

If one really goes by the rules, PG1 should have retired at 60. TTG would not have existed. CCC will not be a problem. No family dynasty to be guarded against. And CC will be thriving in the joy of the Lord.

But now we have a PG who has been illegally employed for 5 years. And very few CC members know about it. And I am absolutely not surprised because that is how CC members are and that is the modus operandi of Calvary Church.

Why? Why? said...

Dear All,

PG is very sly and cunning. He must have planned all this from the very start.

If you look through the accounts of the Extended Ministries, plse pay special attention to Calvary Communications Ministry. The Communications Ministry is headed by Jim Guneratnam. Calvary Communications has Fixed Deposit totalling 800K. Calvary Communications is still receiving missions support from Faith Promise every month. Why ????
The other ministry is Calvary Life Ministries. Calvary Life Ministries is headed by Pam Guneratnam. Fixed Deposits totalling 500K is in Calvary Life Ministries Accounts. Why????

Why are there such huge amounts of money in Fixed Deposits??????
Why are these ministries still supported by Faith Promise when they have huge amounts of money in Fixed Deposits????

Why????

I do not see any other extended ministry having so much money in Fixed Deposits.

Is it because they are headed by the Guneratnam Family???
